La Isla Foundation is seeking volunteers and interns to support on the ground operations and programs. See below for more in depth descriptions:

GENERAL FOR ALL POSITIONS:
La Isla Foundation is a 501-c-3 non-profit based in Leon, Nicaragua that supports the small community of La Isla, also known as “The Isle of Widows”, near Chichigalpa, in Norwestern Nicaragua, where generations of men are dying of a chronic kidney disease (CKD) epidemic. Access to proper medical treatment is limited and the families left behind live in severe poverty with no form of income.
We are currently working on proposals to secure funding in the areas of public health, mental health, water and sanitation, organic agriculture and women’s cooperative small business financing.
For all positions, individuals must be: 18 years old or older, able to work with others, able to complete activities assigned to them, comfortable working in a small, poor, rural community in Nicaragua, open minded, friendly, self-motivated, responsible, and trustworthy.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- IT volunteer/intern to help assist with our work in the office in Leon and to teach Computer Skills classes for adults and kids in the rural community of La Isla once a week (1-2 months commitment).
- Web designer volunteer/intern (1-2 months commitment).
- English teachers volunteers/interns to teach English as a second language to adults and children in the rural community of La Isla once a week (1-2 months commitment).
- G.I.S. Volunteer/intern to create a GIS map of the area of Guanacastal Sur, Department of Chichigalpa, Nicaragua (1-2 months commitment).
- Fashion Design volunteer/intern to help the Cooperativa de Mujeres en Desarollo de Guanacastal Sur (Cooperative of Women in Development of Guanacastal Sur) to improve their sewing skills (1-2 months commitment).
- Screen Printing volunteer/intern to teach the Cooperativa de Mujeres en Desarollo de Guanacastal Sur (Cooperative of Women in Development of Guanacastal Sur) how to produce printed T-Shirt and bags (1-2 months commitment).
- Librarian and reading groups leaders to organize the small library in La Isla community and start reading sessions with children and adults, to encourge community members to use/take advantage of the library facilities (1-2 months commitment).
- A volunteer/intern to work on kids’ sports and art club in La Isla community (1-2 months commitment).
- Human Rights volunteer/intern to collect interviews and organize a database of human rights abuses (minimum 2 months commitment).
- Volunteer/intern to conduct a pilot project for a Sustainable Agricultural Garden in La Isla community (needs to be self-funded and minimum 1-2 months commitment).
- Media volunteer/intern (minimum 2 weeks commitment, preferably 1-2 months).
- Social Media Volunteer to help us promote the mission, cause and activities of La Isla Foundation to a wider public (minimum 2 weeks commitment, preferably 1-2 months).
- Public Health volunteer/intern (1-2 months commitment).
